Drydock Facilities



The Brooke Dockyard's drydock facilities is one of the earliest industrial working dry docks in South East Asia. Established in 31st May1912  during the reign of the second white Rajah of Sarawak, Charles Vyner Brooke. Located at Market Street on the bank of Sarawak River flanked by Masjid Bahagian Kuching.Brooke Dockyard's was the earliest form of industrial employment for the locals in Kuching.In early 1960's during the confrontation years, the dry dock became a focal point for repairing all type of military vessels.

Nowadays,the drydock is still operational and mostly doing repair job for government vessels. The Brooke Dockyard's drydock facilities are planned to be transformed to become Maritime Museum. The proposed development will become a catalyst to enliven the surrounding urban-space and revive the historical legacy of the Brooke Dockyard and its surrounding site constrints.
