CABLE STAYED BRIDGE : SUNGAI LIMBANG

PROPOSED SUNGAI LIMBANG BRIDGE, SUNGAI BUNUT NO2 BRIDGE AND CONNECTION ROADS, LIMBANG, SARAWAK.

Award Date : 29 September 2017

  • Sg.Limbang Bridge 2 shall be the first full scale cable stay bridge in Sarawak.
  • It was launched by the late Yang Amat Berhormat Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Haji Adenan Satem in 2015.
  • The earth breaking ceremony was officiated by Yang Amat Berhormat Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg on 31st October 2017.
  • The objective of Sg. Limbang Bridge 2 is to provide alternative link between Limbang Town and Bandar Seri Begawan which will reduce distance and travelling time.
  • The Sg Limbang Bridge 2 is the advantage for government to develop more land across river from Limbang Town for economic activities, such as agriculture, housing and tourism industry.

Bridge Details

  • Designed as single plane cable stay. The Bridge have dual carriage two ways to handle the increasing traffic in future.
  • The bridge span is about 777meter and expected to link with pan Borneo Lebuhraya.

Construction start date

Brooke Dockyard Engineering Works Corporation is entrusted to construct this first iconic cable stayed bridge in Sarawak.
The construction commencement date is on 27th October 2017 and target to be completed on 26 February 2021 within 40 months period.

Construction sequence (1)

  • The construction start with the site preparation and piling works
  • The construction of pylon B (at Limbang site) will start first.
  • Follow with pylon A towards to Brunei site

Construction sequence (2)

  • By the middle of project duration. The Bridge deck is expected to be installed.
  • The installation of bridge deck will took place at “in situ” via travelling form work mechanism.

Construction sequence (3)

  • Every segment of Bridge deck will be cast and tie with “Steel Cables” and supported by the pylon.
  • The bridge deck will be jointed segment by segment from both pylon A & pylon B until the final closure in the middle.
  • This process will require precise engineering calculation to ensure the integrity of the bridge is complied.

Construction sequence (4)

  • The bridge approach span work will start concurrently with the middle span.
  • The approach span is made of post tensioning concrete.

Completion

  • The other minor activities for completion of this iconic bridge will start parallel with the major activities.

  • Sarawak very own company Brooke Dockyard and Engineering Works Corporation which is entrusted to deliver the project with good HSE track records.
  • An inspiration to be physically realized in the “land of many rivers”, The iconic Sg Limbang Cable Stayed Bridge 2 will be one major landmark.
