THE PROPOSED TRANSFORMATION OF BROOKE DOCKYARD INTO MARITIME MUSEUM AT MARKET STREET, KUCHING, SARAWAK
Project Brief :
The project objective is to transform the old, historical Brooke Dockyard into a Maritime Museum. The dry dock, the training school building and the main workshop will be revitalised and once completed, will be opened to public for exhibition purposes.
The Brooke Dockyard Maritime Museum is going to present the history and legacy of local boats, ethnic groups, riverine and coastal activities. The exhibit will also involve interactive and digital programme to suit the modern and advanced visitors. A ship replica HHY Zahora, will be built in accordance with the actual ship size, and will be displayed at the dry dock as a display on how the dry dock was utilized in the early days.
The proposed development will become a catalyst to enliven the surrounding urban space, and to revive the historical legacy of Brooke Dockyard and its surroundings with adherence to heritage conservation standards.
