ST. Joseph Compression Module

Compression Module completed within 8 months

Client : Sarawak SHELL Bhd
Award Date: 10th February 1999
Completion Date : 10th October 1999
Tonnage : 1200MT

This two-deck offshore module for the St Joseph GRS which consists of a compression train with its supporting platform, located at 35 km offshore north-west of Sabah. The very heart of the compression module are the 14 MW Ebara compressor driven by a highly powered 17 MW ABB gas turbine. The re-injection of associated gas into the reservoir is an innovative technology which enables more oil to be produced over its reservoir life whist incidentally signifies Shell’s commitment to sustainable development of Malaysia’s natural resources.

The Gas Re-injection scheme is brown field hydrocarbon recovery scheme which will increase the reservoir pressure and enhance the ultimate oil recovery at the St Joseph fields to around 35 million barrels (MMstb) over its remaining production period of 20 years.

The delivery of this module marks SSPC’s ceaseless endeavour to bring forth new technology to the oil and gas industry in Malaysia. In 1998, SSPC instituted Malaysia’s first ever remotely operated platforms, the Kinabalu KNDP-A which is located 55 km off Labuan Island.

The St Joseph fields began production in 1982 under Production Sharing Contract with PETRONAS. With the renewal of the PSC in 1996, the St Joseph Field is now a joint venture production between SSPC and Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd.

The completion of the St Joseph Gas Re-injection Module marks the final phase of the onshore works of the project. The final phase of project which consists of the installation, hook-up, commissioning and start up of the module is scheduled for action between the middle of October and towards the end of 1999. The hive of these activities will involve the usage of several heavy lift barges, transportation barge, light craft transits and fast crew boat, all at offshore Sabah Waters.
