17 JULY 2006 - BROOKE DOCKYARD LAUNCHING THE 42-METER BATANG SADONG FERRY AND SFJT-E “TEPUNG TAWAR” CEREMONY.
Brooke Dockyard, during an auspicious occasion graced by YB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Alfred Jabu ak Numpang, Deputy Chief Minister, Minister of Infrastructure Development & Communications successfully launched the 42 meter Double Ended Ferry for the ferry operation client, Liew Fap Nien Sdn Bhd.
The ferry was built entirely with local expertise from Brooke Dockyard Marine Engineering comprising of about 91% bumiputra workforce.
The ferry will be a new link to connect Sebuyau and Sebangan town which will benefit the agriculture and the medium and light Industry as the travel time to transport the nearest mill in Gedong can be reduced to 2-3 hours by sending to mill in Samarahan. The ferry is able to accommodate 32 cars along with 200 passengers per trip and shall be traveling between the 2 ramps and 10 knots.
During the same occasion, YB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Alfred Jabu ak Numpang, also performed a “Tepung Tawar” for South Furious Project.
The South Furious Project, SFJT-E was awarded by Sabah Shell Petroleum Corporation (SSPC) to Brooke Dockyard on 9th December 2005. This is another fast track project undertaken by Brooke Dockyard. Fabrication started in February 2006 and expected to be loaded out on 25th July 2006 for the sub-structure and 6th August 2006 for the Topsides. Brooke Dockyard continue to perform good safety record whereby no LTI (Loss Time Injury) recorded through 408,276 manhours expended for the project till todate.
The South Furious platform will be located in South Sea off Kota Belud, Sabah, Malaysia, in the South Furious Field. The topsides estimates weight of 870 MT and the sub-structure weight approximately 690 MT. Topsides is design to be installed as a single-piece lift and the sub-structure with buoyancy tank and steel mudmat. This is unmanned drilling riser platform with 6 conductors standing on the 4 legged jacket.
Brooke Dockyard is thankful to SB/SSPC for the continue support in awarding the project.
The successful completion of the South Furious topsides and substructure marks another major achievement for the corporation in the oil & gas industry. Brooke Dockyard is now recognized as a major service provider for valued clients Petronas Carigali, Shell, Talisman and Murphy Oil. Brooke is the only active offshore modules fabricator in East Malaysia.
Presently, BDEWC is also undertaking Sg Batang Rajang (Sg During) and Sungai Nyelong Bridge.
For the Batang Rajang Bridge at Durin, Brooke Dockyard has achieved todate 96 % coverall completion. The bridge now is fully linked with the completion of the most important closure stitching works. Remaining works are parapets, surfacing of decks and approach roads and lightings. With the present rate of progress, BDEWC is confident to achieve Certificate of Practical Completion (CPC) by 31st July 2006 and will be ready for handover to the Government in September 2006, as committed to the Minister of Works, Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu during his visit in February this year.
For the Sungai Nyelong Bridge, Sarikei , works are presently ahead of schedule with piling works now in full swing.
