WEDNESDAY, 27 JULY 2005 - BROOKE DOCKYARD LAUNCHES MARINE DEPT VESSEL

Today, Brooke Dockyard launched the 38m Steel Hulled 340 tonne, KBA Permata Hidro for Jabatan Laut Sarawak.

The vessel is part of Jabatan Laut Sarawak and Buoys Light Board’s plan to upgrade the hydrographic and oceanographic survey capabilities within the Sarawak waters operations. Brooke Dockyard’s success in launching the vessel marked another notable achievement for this Marine Engineering based corporation and the ‘Permata Hidro’ with its state of art communication and navigational facilities reflects Brooke Dockyard’s strategy to curve its reputation as a capable shipbuilder in the marine sector for medium sized, complicated vessels and workboats.

The construction of the vessel was also accomplished utilizing Brooke Dockyard’s own in-house resources comprising of about 90% bumiputra workforce.

According to Abang Mohd Ali, electrical engineering responsible for the integration of the navigation and communication systems, Permata Hidro will be utilized to carry out modern hydrographic surveying, conducting of limited oceanographic observations and data processing.
