2005 HIGHLIGHTS - BROOKE DOCKYARD TO BUILD BARAM BAKP-B TOPSIDES MODULES FOR PETRONAS CARIGALI
KUCHING, 28 January: A contract handing over ceremony for the Baram South BAKP-B Offshore Modules by PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd to Brooke Dockyard & Engineering Works Corporation was held today at Brooke’s Sejingkat worksite witnessed by YB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Ak Numpang, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Infrastructure Development and Communications and Minister for Rural Development of Sarawak.
The ceremony marks another notable milestone by Brooke Dockyard in their endeavor to be a leading Marine / Oil & Gas Engineering entity in Sarawak.
The contract encompasses the fabrication of total 3,100 metric tonnes of Baram Compression and Production Platform BAKP-B Module 2 & 3, Module Support Frame (MSF) and Flare Boom.
Module 2 is the Crude Production Module with processing facilities. Module 3 is the Power Generation Module incorporating the Gas Turbine Generator, Power Plant Sub-station, Uninterrupted Power System and 16-man shelter. Both modules will be installed on the MSF at its offshore location.
“The project is now in full gear on the structural works with no efforts spared to ensure we are within schedule, which we are presently maintaining. The contract is for twelve months duration and expected for completion in October, 2005” stated by Ir Zuraimi Hj Sabki, Brooke Dockyard Chief Executive Officer.
With the award of the Baram Project by Petronas Carigali, it will be the most challenging job for Brooke Dockyard in term of its technical complexity and capacity. The award of the Baram-B Compression and Production Modules which incidentally form the “Central Hub” of the whole Baram Field Development, reflects improvements Brooke Dockyard has undergone since its venture in the oil & gas industry.
“The Corporation’s ‘technical enhancement journey’ in the highly competitive and demanding oil & gas industry takes another major step with the award of Baram BAKP-B contract. Brooke Dockyard can now take pride that from its humble ability just to fabricate a small 150-tonne helideck for one of the oil companies, Brooke has attained the ability to fabricate the ‘central complex hub’ of an offshore field development encompassing its production and compression facilities. For this we are forever thankful to PETRONAS Carigali who incidentally gave us our first big break in 1997 with the award of the Malong Drilling Platform,” Datuk Abang Haji Abdul Karim, Chairman Brooke Dockyard stated during the contract documents handover ceremony.
Upon completion, the facilities will be installed at the Baram South oil field located approximately 25km from Baram Shoreline with oil production expected in late Quarter 4, 2005. Brooke Dockyard in a way has contributed towards enhancing the expedient realization of additional oil revenues for the State of Sarawak in particular and Malaysia in general.
Wholly owned by the Sarawak State Government, Brooke Dockyard & Engineering Works Corporation specializes in offshore fabrication as well as in shipbuilding and repair works. It has the biggest dockyard cum fabrication yard in Sarawak.
